OLE custom Surfboards | Bob “OLE” Olson

My first surfboard was an OLE. It was a present for my 7th Birthday. Custom shaped by Bob for me – with the colors that I had dreamed up and my name in pencil on the stringer, and it was PERFECT. Changed my life. Yes, that surfboard changed my life!!  Best board EVER. Ole is a legend in the surfing community and there are hundreds of story’s just like mine, especially here in Lahaina. Bob is still in the shaping room doing what he loves, shaping beautiful custom surfboards for people to ride & enjoy their love of the ocean. … Continue reading OLE custom Surfboards | Bob “OLE” Olson

Naughty Grandpa…

There are 4 little boys in this family under the age of 7.   And one over 70. When it comes to beach portraits there is an exponential relationship between the number of little boys and the likelihood of them ending up in the ocean.  So… Kristy, myself or a family member generally gives a quick debriefing on the necessity of staying out of the sand and water until we have taken some nice photos. As it turned out, these four little boys – though definitely against their own instincts – were very well behaved and managed to stay more or … Continue reading Naughty Grandpa…

Honeymoon : : N and J

This is Natalie and Jeff. For the last two weeks they’ve been hopping between Maui and Kauai for their honeymoon!  And so I went and met them in Wailea, at a beach by their hotel, to capture some casual memories of their Mauimoon!       Last fall, I had the honour of photographing their gorgeous Toronto farm wedding, alongside the amazingly talented Rebecca Amber and styled by the girls at Spread Love Events. Though we went to University together in BC, between them migrating back east and me to Hawaii, we haven’t seen much of each other in the interim. It was so nice … Continue reading Honeymoon : : N and J

The girl next door. Sunset Portraits

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; … Continue reading The girl next door. Sunset Portraits

A year in reflection…

2012 was a busy year for Maui Maka!    With a business that is outgrowing its britches as quickly as we can acquire new ones, it has often felt as if we will never catch up with ourselves. We had grandeur ideas of a “one-foul-swoop-end-of-the-year” post, that incorporated everything we had seen in 2012…  but as most new year’s resolutions go… that was a bit ambitious. Instead, with a full plate of destination weddings booked for 2013, I would like to take a moment – and some photos – to appreciate how lucky we are to be able to facilitate … Continue reading A year in reflection…

Upcountry style : Maui Wedding at Kaluanui Estate

This shoot was a creative collaboration with some good friends from Maui who are also in the wedding industry!  We chose the upcountry estate of Kaluanui (locally known as ‘the Hui‘) not only because it is one of our favorite Maui wedding venues … Continue reading Upcountry style : Maui Wedding at Kaluanui Estate

Double the Love!

Two sets of twins! Being entirely outnumbered by twins, I expected to have my hands full for this photo session. They were quite the opposite… so adorable and such sweethearts to photograph! Hope they make it back to Maui soon. Continue reading Double the Love!

Kamehameha Day Parade 2012 – Lahaina, Maui

Our favorite parade in Lahaina!  They close Front Street, dress the pretty horses up with beautiful flower leis, and All the keiki come out to watch the excitement. The parade is to honor and celebrate Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the Kingdom of Hawai’i. The pa’u riders represent a royal court led by a Queen on horseback, followed by princesses representing the eight major islands of Hawai’i. Pa’u women are dressed in elegant and colorful nineteenth century riding gowns.        Continue reading Kamehameha Day Parade 2012 – Lahaina, Maui

adventures in our back yard. Olivine Pools, Maui – Hawaii

Living in Maui its easy to get spoiled. Its not that we take for granted that we live in such a beautiful place. Maui is amazing, but sometimes we get so busy editing photos, keeping up with blogs, facebook, and booking new clients, that we don’t have a chance to enjoy the beauty and adventures in our own backyard.  Its almost overwhelming, there are so many beautiful places to explore, but you find that routine sets in and you end up going to the same beaches day after day. I hadn’t been to Olivine pools in years.  I had been … Continue reading adventures in our back yard. Olivine Pools, Maui – Hawaii
