I first heard about Cadaqués in an issue of Hobo Magazine. Issue #16 lures you in with seductive images of the ‘playa nudist.’ If you flip to the back there is a short list of places to eat and shop. If one thing has … Continue reading Cadaques, Spain
I had to pull over twice on my way to meet Alicia and Ryan, not because I was lost, but because the long winding road to their cottage was so beautiful with the afternoon sun breaking through. After a glass of my favourite … Continue reading Life is but a dream…
My first surfboard was an OLE. It was a present for my 7th Birthday. Custom shaped by Bob for me – with the colors that I had dreamed up and my name in pencil on the stringer, and it was PERFECT. Changed my life. Yes, that surfboard changed my life!! Best board EVER. Ole is a legend in the surfing community and there are hundreds of story’s just like mine, especially here in Lahaina. Bob is still in the shaping room doing what he loves, shaping beautiful custom surfboards for people to ride & enjoy their love of the ocean. … Continue reading OLE custom Surfboards | Bob “OLE” Olson
For Tory’s birthday this year, for old time’s sake, I packed up my camera and joined him for dawn patrol. This means we set our alarm for long before the sun woke up, grabbed our Hula Pie coffees at Napili … Continue reading A dawn to dusk birthday shift at the Bay…
I spent this weekend with my best friends «one in spirit». Nothing makes me happier then taking photographs, of people I love, in places I love. I have been taking photos of these «four» in this place for a long time. It never loses its lustre… and neither do they. “KNights in white satin, never reaching the end… Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.” Thank you Tara for providing all the ‘costumes’ «your regular clothes» and rallying the dressed down nudes to dress up. Thank you Anna «so much more camera shy then your beauty lets … Continue reading Knights in White Satin
Shopping at Hula Gypsy is like stepping into a vintage dream closet… We love it! Hula Gypsy Vintage Boutique has beautiful vintage and new clothing, accessories and collectibles. Everything in the store is amazing, & most of it is on Sale! There are usually a couple racks of $20 clothing, and Anna (owner) is so nice to chat with while you browse! We had the pleasure of working with Anna for a recent collaboration for a styled photo shoot. She assisted us in choosing an outfit that met our vision, and our model Rachel looked amazing in it! (see above) Whether … Continue reading Maui Maka ♥’s Hula Gypsy!
“You’ve reached New York Times #1 Bestselling author Duncan Penn. Thank you for your call. I am away from my phone at the moment. If this is urgent please contact my assistant Davito Jones.” Davito, who also goes by David Lingwood, is also a member of the Buried Life… he is not Duncan’s assistant… but he is in the habit of leaving long voicemail messages on Duncan’s behalf and was supposedly picking me up from the airport. I flew to LA earlier this month to photograph the Buried Life for a Men’s Health article. The last minute opportunity was made possible by … Continue reading The is the SIGN you’ve been waiting for!

I adore this family! They were our villa roommates for the wedding in Bali and by the time we left they felt like friends we’d always known. Natalie tells us that Luciano does cry but i don’t believe her because I never saw anybody in this family without a contagious grin on their face. Such beautiful people inside and out… I took a million photographs of Luci during our 2 weeks together but I couldn’t let them fly home without some family portraits too. Our favorite parade in Lahaina! They close Front Street, dress the pretty horses up with beautiful flower leis, and All the keiki come out to watch the excitement. The parade is to honor and celebrate Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the Kingdom of Hawai’i. The pa’u riders represent a royal court led by a Queen on horseback, followed by princesses representing the eight major islands of Hawai’i. Pa’u women are dressed in elegant and colorful nineteenth century riding gowns. Continue reading Kamehameha Day Parade 2012 – Lahaina, Maui
Living in Maui its easy to get spoiled. Its not that we take for granted that we live in such a beautiful place. Maui is amazing, but sometimes we get so busy editing photos, keeping up with blogs, facebook, and booking new clients, that we don’t have a chance to enjoy the beauty and adventures in our own backyard. Its almost overwhelming, there are so many beautiful places to explore, but you find that routine sets in and you end up going to the same beaches day after day. I hadn’t been to Olivine pools in years. I had been … Continue reading adventures in our back yard. Olivine Pools, Maui – Hawaii

“Tallow is created by two free-spirited and like-minded souls, Ali Mandalis and Shannon Clynes, and together they present an authentic brand that is respectful to the past, confident in the future and destined to establish an influential role in the progression of surfing in modern culture.” Yesterday we spent the day at Karma’s Nammos Beach Club in Bali to celebrate our friend Seewah’s last day as a single girl! Ali and Shannon (below) are the free spirits behind Tallow. Get Shannon’s bathing suit here. Continue reading Tallow. Byron Bay, Australia
Seewah is the part that I knew. She is free spirited and special like no other. In the eloquent words of her maid of honor… “Seewah is hands down, the most unabashedly stoked, human being I know.” She is gracefully stunning on every level and shines unfalteringly from the inside out. Though we have floated in and out of each other’s lives over the last decade, Seewah is love at first sight and a forever friend. The last time I saw her was four years ago and in Bali. We were staying in a villa (five minutes from where she … Continue reading the whole is greater than the sum of its parts – aristotle
